How To - Crochet Oranges and Lemons plus Fruit Segments

Bonjour tout le monde! Today I really wanted to share with you the written versions of the last two weeks of Yarn Scrap Friday crochet video tutorials, and that is for oranges and lemons (and limes!).

Here we have crochet patterns for the actual fruit shapes but also some fruit segments, they will certainly get your taste buds tingling in anticipation of summer cocktails!

For these projects you will need;

DK/light worsted weight yarn in orange, yellow or green for limes
DK/light worsted weight yarn in white
DK/light worsted weight yarn in green (top of orange)
3.5 mm crochet hook
Toy stuffing or yarn scraps for stuffing fruits
Yarn needle
Scissors

O = Orange Yarn
Y = Yellow Yarn
G = Green Yarn

Fruit Segment

Row 1
Using G, Y, or O and a 3.5 mm crochet hook, crochet 5sc into a magic circle, pull to tighten - (5)

Row 2
Ch1 (dont count as st here or throughout), TURN, 1sc in 1st st, 2sc in next st, 1sc in next st, 2sc in next st, 1sc in last st - (7)

Row 3
Ch1, TURN, 1sc in 1st st, 1sc in next st, 2sc in next st, 1sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next st, 1sc in last st - (9)

Row 4
Ch1, TURN, 1sc in 1st st, 1sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next st, 1sc in next 3 sts, 2sc in next st, 1sc in last st - (11)

Row 5
Join W with ch1, TURN, 1sc in 1st st, 1sc in next 3 sts, 2sc in next st, 1sc in next 4 sts, 2sc in next st, 1sc in last st - (13)

Row 6
Re-join G, Y, or O with ch1, TURN, 1sc in 1st st, 1sc in next 4 sts, 2sc in next st, 1sc in next 5 sts, 2sc in next st, 1sc in last st - (15) Fasten off and tie in all tails.

Finishing
Using W sew from centre hole to outside white edge 5 times going back to the centre each time.



Orange

Base

Round 1
Using O and a 3.5 mm crochet hook, crochet 8sc into a magic circle, pull to tighten, sl st to join - (8)

Round 2
Ch1, 1sc in same st as previous sl st, *2sc in next st* repeat from * to * until end, sl st in ch1 to join - (16)

Round 3
Ch1, 2sc in next st, *1sc in next st, 2sc in next st* repeat from * to * until end, sl st in ch1 to join - (24)

Round 4
Ch1, 1sc in next st, 2sc in next st, *1sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next st* repeat from * to * until end, sl st in ch1 to join - (32)

Round 5
Ch1, 1sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next st, *1sc in next 3 sts, 2sc in next st* repeat from * to * until end, sl st in ch1 to join - (40)

Rounds 6 - 9
Ch1, 1sc in next st and in ea st around, sl st in ch1 to join - (40) Fasten off and tie in all tails.

Top

Round 1
Using O and a 3.5 mm crochet hook, crochet 8sc into a magic circle, pull to tighten, sl st to join - (8)

Round 2
Ch1, 1sc in same st as previous sl st, *2sc in next st* repeat from * to * until end, sl st in ch1 to join - (16)

Round 3
Ch1, 2sc in next st, *1sc in next st, 2sc in next st* repeat from * to * until end, sl st in ch1 to join - (24)

Round 4
Ch1, 1sc in next st, 2sc in next st, *1sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next st* repeat from * to * until end, join W with sl st in ch1 to join - (32)

Round 5
Continuing with W ch1, 1sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next st, *1sc in next 3 sts, 2sc in next st* repeat from * to * until end, re-join O with sl st in ch1 to join - (40)

Round 6
Continuing with O ch1, 1sc in next st and in ea st around, sl st in ch1 to join - (40) Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Finishing
Using W sew from centre hole to outside white edge 8 times going back to the centre each time, aim to sew towards the white increases and your orange should be divided equally into 8 segments.

Use remaining tail end to sew top to base making sure to stuff your orange before you close.

Extra
For top of one side of your orange you may wish to create a small bit of foliage in green, to do this use G and a 3.5 mm crochet hook and simply *ch3, sl st in 1st ch* repeat from * to * twice more and sew onto top of orange.



Lemon/Lime

Base

Round 1
Using Y or G and a 3.5 mm crochet hook, crochet 8sc into a magic circle, pull to tighten, sl st to join - (8)

Rounds 2 - 3
Ch1, 1sc in next st and in ea st around, sl st in ch1 to join - (8)

Round 4
Ch1, 1sc in same st as previous sl st, *2sc in next st* repeat from * to * until end, sl st in ch1 to join - (16)

Round 5
Ch1, 1sc in next st and in ea st around, sl st in ch1 to join - (16)

Round 6
Ch1, 2sc in next st, *1sc in next st, 2sc in next st* repeat from * to * until end, sl st in ch1 to join - (24)

Round 7
Ch1, 1sc in next st and in ea st around, sl st in ch1 to join - (24)

Round 8
Ch1, 1sc in next st, 2sc in next st, *1sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next st* repeat from * to * until end, sl st in ch1 to join - (32)

Round 9
Ch1, 1sc in next st and in ea st around, sl st in ch1 to join - (32)

Round 10
Ch1, 1sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next st, *1sc in next 3 sts, 2sc in next st* repeat from * to * until end, sl st in ch1 to join - (40)

Rounds 11 - 12
Ch1, 1sc in next st and in ea st around, sl st in ch1 to join - (40) Fasten off and tie in all tails.

Top

Round 1
Using Y or G and a 3.5 mm crochet hook, crochet 8sc into a magic circle, pull to tighten, sl st to join - (8)

Round 2
Ch1, 1sc in same st as previous sl st, *2sc in next st* repeat from * to * until end, sl st in ch1 to join - (16)

Round 3
Ch1, 2sc in next st, *1sc in next st, 2sc in next st* repeat from * to * until end, sl st in ch1 to join - (24)

Round 4
Ch1, 1sc in next st, 2sc in next st, *1sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next st* repeat from * to * until end, join W with sl st in ch1 to join - (32)

Round 5
Continuing with W ch1, 1sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next st, *1sc in next 3 sts, 2sc in next st* repeat from * to * until end, re-join Y or G with sl st in ch1 to join - (40)

Round 6
Continuing with Y or G ch1, 1sc in next st and in ea st around, sl st in ch1 to join - (40) Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Finishing
Using W sew from centre hole to outside white edge 8 times going back to the centre each time, aim to sew towards the white increases and your lemon should be divided equally into 8 segments.

Use remaining tail end to sew top to base making sure to stuff your lemon before you close.
