How To - Crochet a Small Box


This sweet little project is just perfect as a small gift for someone, perhaps to hide some chocolates in or even a special piece of jewellery. Why not give it a go!

Finished box using suggested materials measures 3" x 3" approx.

You will need;

  • Some DK/Light worsted weight cotton yarn
  • 2.5mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
Bottom

Round 1
Work 10sc into magic circle, pull to tighten, sl st to join - (10)


Round 2
ch2, 1dc in same st as chains, 2dc in next st and in ea st around, sl st in top of 2ch to join - (20)


Round 3
ch2, 2dc in next st, *1dc in next st, 2dc in next st* repeat from * to * until end, sl st in top of 2ch to join - (30) Fasten off and tie in all tails.


Round 4
Re-join your yarn around any dc post from round 3 and ch2, 1dc around each dc post from round 3, around, sl st in top of 2ch to join - (30)




Round 5 - 8
ch2, 1dc in ea st around, sl st in top of 2ch to join - (30) Fasten off on round 8 and tie in all tails.



Top

Round 1
Work 10sc into magic circle, pull to tighten, sl st to join - (10)

Round 2
ch2, 1dc in same st as chains, 2dc in next st and in ea st around, sl st in top of 2ch to join - (20)

Round 3
ch2, 2dc in next st, *1dc in next st, 2dc in next st* repeat from * to * until end, sl st in top of 2ch to join - (30)

Round 4
ch2, 1dc in next st, 2dc in next st, *1dc in next 2 sts, 2dc in next st* repeat from * to * until end, sl st in top of 2ch to join - (40)

Round 5
In back loops only for this round, ch2, 1dc in ea st around, sl st in top of 2ch to join - (40) Fasten off and tie in all tails.



Flower

Round 1
Work 10sc into magic circle, pull to tighten, sl st to join - (10)

Round 2
*[1sc, 1dc, 1tr] in next st, [1tr, 1dc, 1sc] in next st* repeat from * to * until end to make five petals, sl st in next st regardless of round and fasten off, use your tails to sew and tie into place on the top of your box.
